Tongue-Tie & Lip-Tie Laser Treatment for Infants and Children
Country Dental Cambridge proudly offers tongue-tie and lip-tie releases for both infants and children which is commonly known as a Frenectomy. We will use our state of the art technology waterlase to perform this simple and safe procedure carried out by our talented pediatric specialist Dr Anoushe.
To assess whether your child needs a release, Dr Anoushe will look at the tongue frenum and upper lip. Her calm and caring demeanor will provide a happy and safe experience for you and your child.
The precise characteristics of laser dentistry enables us to extract only the necessary amount of tissue, ensuring effective results whilst protecting your child's teeth and other structures.

The Importance of This Treatment
Both infants and kids may be impacted by tongue/lip tie which primarily develops during birth. Leaving it untreated can cause a variety of issues with feeding, oral hygiene and communication. The waterlase is a safe, precise and less invasive way to treat frenum restrictions allowing patients to have faster healing with less pain and fewer complications in contrast to traditional methods i.e. dental drills. Waterlase helps to eliminate the vibration and pressure associated with a drill. By minimising these elements, it fosters a more relaxed and anxiety-free dental experience.

Breastfeeding
A frenectomy benefits with breastfeeding as it increases Breast Milk Production enabling the baby’s tongue to move more freely, effectively creating a stronger latch. If a baby has a tongue-tie, it can cause the mother significant pain during breastfeeding due to an improper latch, causing complications towards her. Dr Anoushe will assist in figuring out whether your child's breastfeeding issue is due to the frenum and if a frenectomy is the best option for your baby.
After a frenectomy, the baby’s improved ability to latch correctly can substantially reduce nipple soreness and discomfort. A tongue-tie or lip-tie can cause the baby to take in excessive amounts of air while breastfeeding, leading to gassiness and colic. By improving the latch the baby may then experience fewer crying episodes, and a better sleep, ultimately supporting their growth and well-being.
How is this treatment carried out?
- To improve range of motion, the frenum beneath the tongue or upper lip is removed by the laser light.
- The laser technology virtually eliminates bleeding and causes very little discomfort.
- It decreases the risk of infection and potential post-operative complications. By using dental lasers it significantly reduces swelling, bleeding and discomfort.
The laser treatment is used within various treatments. Learn more about how this can benefit our patients and provide the best experience for them.
